The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Timor-Leste, Dr Zacarias Albano da Costa, has called on the Moroccan Government to allow the return home to her family of West Saharan activist, Aminatu Haidar..

Haidar began a hunger strike at the airport of Lanzarote, 14 days ago over the refusal of Morocco to allow her to return home.

"For humanitarian reasons, we appeal from here to the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco to authorize Haidar's return home as soon as possible," Minister Zacarias da Costa said.

The Minister said Timor-Leste was sympathetic the Saraui people as their struggle for self-determination in West Sahara, is similar to Timor-Leste's struggle for self-determination and independence.
